FAQ
Share your best answersVIVE Tracker 3.0 is a compact, lightweight tracking accessory that brings real-world movement and objects into virtual environments. It provides precise six-degree-of-freedom (6DoF) positional tracking for full-body tracking, object tracking, motion capture, simulation, and professional workflows.
VIVE Tracker 3.0 uses SteamVR™ Base Stations (Lighthouse tracking). Its sensors detect the base stations’ infrared laser sweeps, and SteamVR computes the tracker’s position and orientation in six degrees of freedom (6DoF). It does not use cameras or inside-out tracking.
No. VIVE Tracker 3.0 does not include onboard cameras and does not use inside-out tracking.
SteamVR™ Base Stations (BS1.0 or BS2.0) emit Lighthouse infrared laser sweeps that create a precise spatial reference system. VIVE Tracker 3.0 requires Base Stations to determine its exact position and orientation within a tracked space.
It uses SteamVR™ Lighthouse tracking with SteamVR™ Base Stations (BS1.0 or BS2.0).
VIVE Tracker 3.0 works within SteamVR tracking ecosystems that support Lighthouse tracking. It can be used with a wide range of SteamVR-compatible headsets and setups.
Yes. VIVE Tracker 3.0 can be used in setups where tracking data is required without a headset, such as motion capture, robotics, simulation, or custom tracking applications that rely on SteamVR and Lighthouse tracking.
The number of VIVE Trackers you can use depends on available USB ports for wireless dongles, how many trackers your VR application supports, and RF conditions in your environment. Each tracker typically uses its own wireless dongle (included).
Yes. By attaching multiple trackers to key points on the body, VIVE Tracker 3.0 enables full-body tracking in supported SteamVR applications.
For full-body tracking, VIVE Tracker 3.0 units are attached to areas such as the waist and feet (and other limbs if needed) using compatible mounting accessories.
Tracker mounting accessories (including track straps) are sold separately.
Yes. VIVE Tracker 3.0 can be mounted to real-world objects or props to track their movement in virtual environments, enabling realistic interactions, simulations, and custom hardware integrations.
VIVE Tracker 3.0 uses a standard 1/4-inch camera mount (ISO 1222), making it compatible with tripods, rigs, props, and custom hardware.
Yes. VIVE Tracker 3.0 has a 240° tracking field of view, and mounting accessories should not obstruct the tracker’s sensors.
VIVE Tracker 3.0 offers up to approximately 7.5 hours of use on a full charge, depending on usage conditions.
Yes. In robotics and automation workflows, VIVE Tracker 3.0 can be used to capture and analyze real-world movement for remote operation, motion path recording, performance evaluation, and simulation-based training.
